Did you have to train or apprentice with another designer? How was that?
I attended a design school in hollywood, and I also had internships with fashion designers, stylists, and buyers. With those experiences, i realized to have a name in the indusrty, it has to be earned.
What inspired you to get into fashion design?
When I was a little girl, I’d love to play dress up in my sisters’ clothing. Years later, I didn’t know those clothes would be mine. The hand-me-downs weren’t very trendy, fashionable, or fun anymore, so I began to alter the clothing to create my own style. By the reaction from my fellow junior high classmates, I knew this talent would soon be my hobby. (deep breath, smiles) Though I was only walking through the halls of my middle school, I envisioned walking to a podium to accept my award as Designer of the Year.”
Describe your philosophy about the art of fashion.
Fashion design is defined as the applied art dedicated to clothing and lifestyle created within the cultural and social influences of a specific time
What about fashion as a business?
The Fashion industry is a business. The key to having a successful business is networking.
What skills do you need to be a fashion designer?
Designing is a very difficult job. I think you should have a full understanding of garment construction, pattern making, fabrics, and the body.
What inspires your designs?
My designs are inspired by nature, music and art
If you could do anything else, what would it be?
Anything else… hmmm.. I have been dreaming about being a designer since I was a little girl. There is nothing else
What advice do you have for a young woman who wants to be a fashion designer?
My advice to new designers is, never say no to a client and NEVER give up!
What can we expect from you in the near future?
You can expect to see my designs on a wide range of music artists, and a unisex ready to wear line.
Tell me about your fans.
I am still a new designer, I dont feel like I have fans. I love my support team and the more I grow as a designer, the stronger my teams gets.
What do you think of www.dcodemagazine.com?
I think DCode magazine is a great way to be informed with the latest in fashion, music, and most industry related events.
What do you do during the day?
Because I am my own PR, fabricating, sketches, sewing, and marketing, everyday is completely different. My goal is to have I try to shoot.
