Vancouver based fashion photographer Alan Chan has been taking pictures ever since he got his first digital point and shoot at the age of 14. But it wasn’t until last summer he began shooting fashion. That besides working as a commercial pilot on the side: “- Shooting fashion photography made me realize being able to create an image with a team of talented people is so amazing. This also allows me to explore the creative side of me through my work, and being able to let me step back away from the so technical side of flying.”

He finds inspiration in the works of photographers such as Mario Testino, Patrick Demarchelier, Mariano Vivanco and Terry Richardson, but his job as a pilot might just be his biggest source of inspiration: “- I am able to see the world from above; and this inspires me to view the world entirely different from different angles and aspect on the ground.”

Apart from shooting for some local designers and magazines, his work has been featured in publications such as TLC Magazine, Vancouver Fashion eZine, and String Magazine.

Scarlett Johansson’s Hairstylist Oribe Discusses Her New ‘Do

Scarlett Johansson got some interesting feedback about her recent new lobbed haircut. Shall we be nice and call it a mixed bag?The gorgeous actress cut her locks to well above the shoulders, trying something edgy and messy. Now her hairstylist is talking about the new cut.
Celebrity hairstylist Oribe described his client’s look as “a combination of Brigitte Bardot in the front and 90′s Christy Turlington at the bottom,” and a “modern bob.”
His primary motivation for the change was giving her a fresh look for mid-summer, so he lightened it and removed some of the heaviness.
The interesting thing about Scarlett’s hair is that it was actually cut two times to get the look we saw at Comic Con.
The first time, Scarlett was supposed to have a style like Bridget Bardot, so Oribe “took 5 to 6 inches off the front.” After Scarlett’s hair was cut for that job, they took length off the back to make it a modern summer cut.
Oribe insists that this look is great on everybody. “I really like this style because it can look good on everybody,” he said.

“This haircut isn’t so drastic – it’s very soft in a way. A medium-length bob like this can be turned into lots of different styles, so it doesn’t take a certain type of face shape or skin tone to pull it off.
In terms of length, the style should be closer to the collarbone in front, not at chin level. The hair should be left long enough to put up.”

It’s interesting to see how much thought went into her simple style, which reminds me of a nightmare haircut I gave myself one time… I think ScarJo can pull it off, though! It’ll look better when it’s smoother.

If you thought the French First Lady is satisfied being the arm candy of her President husband Nicolas Sarkozy, you are definitely wrong. The former supermodel who is busy pursuing a career in acting and currently filming her debut movie directed by Woody Allen, is making sure she finds time for charity as well. The First Lady has shown her charitable side by offering her patronage to a charity event held by Swarovski Elements Swarovski Elements has commissioned 22 designers, including Givenchy, Lanvin, Vivienne Westwood and Sonia Rykiel to create a Swarovski crystal-adorned little black dress for this event. The little black dresses with Swarovski designs will be displayed in September in New York after which they will be auctioned. The money raised from the sale of these bespoke dresses will be donated to the American Cancer Society and La Ligue Nationale Contre le Cancer.

By now you probably know that Kate Moss landed the cover of U.K. September Vogue, which is like her billionth cover (my all time fave was the Face cover when she had the braided mohawk) …and here is one of the shots from the editorial. Given all the hatred dumped on her (aka the dark side of feminism) for her days as the poster child of “Heroin Chic,” it must kill some folks that of all her super model peers, she has been the one who has stayed–seemingly almost without effort–perched at the very top of the model totem pole. Sandra Bullock tops Forbes List of highest paid Hollywood actresses

Although things may not be great in her personal life, Sandra Bullock’s professional life is definitely looking great. The actress, who recently divorced from her cheating husband Jesse James, has topped the Forbes list of Hollywood’s highest-paid actresses. The lady ruled the box office last year with two of the most successful films, the proposal and The Blind side which even won her an Oscar for Best Actress. Between her earnings on The Proposal and The Blind Side, Sandra Bullock earned $56 million between June 2009 and June 2010 making her Hollywood’s highest grosser in the actress category.

The second position on this list is tied between Reese Witherspoon and Cameron Diaz with both actresses showing earnings of $32 million over the past year. Witherspoon’s earnings are courtesy upfront pay from two movies: How Do You Know from director James L. Brooks and the film adaptation of Water for Elephants. Add to this her earning as brand ambassador for Avon. While Cameron bagged a bagful of moolah from the success of her movies like Knight & Day and Shrek.

One of my favorite leading ladies, Jennifer Aniston has taken the fourth spots earning $27 million over the past year despite her movies failing at the box office. Aniston who has a string of romantic comedies lined up, still gets money from her famed sitcom, Friends and has recently launched her own perfume line.

Sex and the City star, Sarah Jessica Parker rounds up the top five of this list, earning $25 million in the past year. The lady whose recent movie, Sex and the City 2 was a success earns not just from the shows syndication but she also has her own successful line of perfumes.

Julia Roberts came in at the sixth position with $20 million in earnings. The better half of Brangelina, Angelina Jolie has tied with Julia Roberts by registering $20 million in earnings. At number eight is Drew Barrymore who has registered $15 million in earnings. 16 times Oscar nominee, Meryl Streep has secured the ninth position on the list with 413 million earnings. Finally, at number ten is teen sensation, Kristen Stewart whose earnings over the past year are a cool $12 million.

Tell me about yourself…

I’m a half Korean and half Swedish International Glamour Model. I was born in the Midwest and currently call a suburb outside of Chicago my home. I also work full time for an International Medical/Chemical Specialty Company. I’m a self proclaimed nerd that loves to read. I also enjoy cooking and entertaining. I’m extremely loyal and kind.

How did you get into modelling

Back in 2008 I had an opportunity to shoot with Eric G from Gea Photography in Los Angeles. After we shot, I received a lot of positive feedback and someone suggested I enter the Maxim Hometown Hotties Contest that same year. I ended up placing in the Top 100 and the exposure I received from the contest and the Maxim website itself brought me many more opportunities.

What current projects are you working on?

Currently I’m working on two different 2011 calendars along with two different I-Phone applications. The one just launched last week and I’m working with the company to add even more images to my application. I also just signed on to be the Spokesmodel for a company called Nawteez. It’s a great little company that specializes in really quirky, funny T-shirts and clubwear. I’m also starting to dabble in some acting and more commercial work.

Favourite people to work with and why.

I really enjoy working with people that are truly professional and easy going. I’m such an easy going person that laughs and jokes around all the time. I can’t work with people that don’t have a sense of humour and take themselves too seriously. Sure, I want professional and communicative, but I leave any ego at the door, and so should the people I collaborate with.

If you could work with anybody, who would it be and why.

I’ve been blessed to work with anyone that I’ve ever truly wanted to whether it’s been local or abroad. I suppose if I had the chance to work George from Onyx Photography, I would have taken it in a heartbeat. His work can seriously take your breath away. RIP George.

Best photo shooting till today?

It’s so hard to limit myself to answer with one single shoot. I’ve taken all the experiences and try to learn and grow. Eric G from Gea Photography is so thorough and easy to get along with. He tought me so much and we even travelled around California shooting and eating donuts! Walter Malebar-Cantu from Kaizen-Foto in Chicago is amazing to work with. I’ve shot with him more than any other photographer to date. We understand each other and can just laugh at each other all day long. His work speaks for himself since all the images in this feature were shot by him.

What is your best attribute?

I would say physically my best attribute would be my legs. I’ve been told so many times that I have a killer pair of legs. I’ve also been told that I have very pretty eyes. They are hazel green and change colors depending on my mood or what I’m wearing. It’s nice to be an Asian model that doesn’t wear fake colored contacts! LOL I’ve been told I have a bit of a Megan Fox thing going on. I don’t see it, but I thank them anyway!!

What turns you on?

Passion! I’m very attracted to people that are passionate about something aside from going out and partying all the time or how much money they make. Intelligent people are so sexy. I love being around people that are even smarter than me. I’m a sponge and I can hang on to every word someone speaks if they are teaching me something or exposing me to something interesting or new. Confident men rule my heart. I don’t like conceited, pompous, or self-centered men. But a confident man is such a turn on for all women.

What turns you off?

I can’t stand name droppers. Selfishness is also a huge turn off. It’s important to try and put yourself first a lot of the time, but it’s so integeral to give of yourself rather than always taking. People that don’t follow through…and people that pretend to be something they are not. I recently agreed to go out on a date with an older man. Before we actually went out on a date, he would text or call me, and talk in such a way that he was trying to sound like a 20 year old. He made me feel like he was talking to a 20 year old too. It was such an absolute turn off that I never went through with the date. I knew how old he was when he asked me out..I was interested in a man..not a little boy..or a man acting like a little boy. NEXT….Chewing with your mouth open or making a lot of noise…long nose hairs…

Funniest thing that has happened to you recently?

Every day of my life brings some sort of hilarious moments, but recently I was laying out at a pool and as I went to lay back down on my lounge chair I did it just a little too fast with too much weight on the upper part of the chair and I fell completely back with my legs and booty straight up in the air…I would have been embarrassed but it was so funny…i laughed so hard. So did everyone else!! All you could see are my skinny legs and flip flops stuck straight up in the air!

Favourite movie? Favourite actor / actress?

It’s really hard to limit this to just one answer also, but I love “The Usual Suspects”, Braveheart, The Notebook, Anchorman, etc. I love movies of all genres. I don’t really have a favourite actor or actress at the moment…I’ve always enjoyed Angelina Jolie and all of her movies.

What can we expect from you in the near future?

I’m working on updating the content of my official website. I’ve been meaning to launch my online store for quite a while now but life just gets so busy sometimes that often times things take to the back burner. I’m excited to launch it and to start my own blog. It will be called Kimberly’s Musings. I’m going to blog about everything from my modelling career, parenting, cooking, beauty, fashion, music, movies, charity events etc. Anyone that follows me on twitter will tell you that I’m quite hilarious at times and am very down to earth. I’m quite sensitive and caring as well. I’d like to add this very same type of personality into my blogs. I’d like to share my recipes as well as my life experiences. I’m dabbling a bit more in commercial work and acting. I will never attempt to act full time, but it’s another fun outlet to the industry. I’m excited to start working on my 2011 calendar. I have some fun themes that are very representive of my personality.

Tell me about your fans.

I have amazing fans. They are so supportive. I have fans that have been following my career since the first week I started. It’s wonderful to be viewed as not only a beautiful woman, but a beautiful person inside and out. My fans tell me all the time that I am just as beautiful on the inside as I am on the outside. I’m not perfect by any means, and I’ve made plenty mistakes in my life, but I try to learn from everything and better myself. I’m never done growing. My fans realize this and support me no matter what. I really would not even be modelling today if I didn’t have the fans and support. They are the reason all models are here and are blessed with this wonderful life.

I will most definitely tell everyone that when I was approached to be featured in Dcode Magazine, I had already heard of it! The magazine is a cut above the rest in terms of online publications. There is something elegant and edgy about it all rolled into one. The articles are so interesting and stylistic. I can get lost looking over all the images and fashions. I love it and am honoured to be featured in this publication.

Life likes and dislikes

I love my life! And I’m surrounded by love and great family and friends. I won’t even tarnish it by mentioning my dislikes. I’m content and just live my life wishing the best for everyone. I’m a hopeless/hopeful romantic!
