If you’re going to start a line of biographical comic books devoted to “culturally relevant celebrities and pop-culture icons,” Lady Gaga is probably a good choice to inaugurate the series. But the first issue of “Fame,” published by Bluewater Productions, is very strange. Read the rest of this entry »

Yesterday came news that Lady Gaga, who has worked together with Philip Treacy on several of her headpieces, has applied for an internship with the milliner — although a spokesperson for Treacy said nothing definite had been confirmed yet. And today, a first look at another fashion collaboration: the first still from Gaga’s upcoming “Alejandro” video, directed by Steven Klein, has appeared.

Gaga recently spoke to Extra about working with Klein, but she wasn’t too forthcoming, calling it “a beautiful video” but adding that, “like all my videos, I really don’t know what it will look like until it’s finished.”

She continued: “[Steven] is a great friend of mine, and I love him so much and have so much respect for him. We’ve been so excited to collaborate . . . and tell a story of my music through his lens.”

Ke$ha

kesha-mainSo I’ve been hearing quite a lot of “Tik Tok” on the radio lately, did some research and it turns out to be a song by Kesha Rose Sebert aka Ke$ha. Her style is pretty interesting too, like Lady Gaga, she seems to not really like to wear pants. It also looks like she can’t go anywhere without the black studded combat boots, she’s been seen wearing them in almost every picture! I’m going to keep a watch on her style and music. Do you guys like her style and/or music?

lady-gagaLady Gaga’s stylist Nicola Formichetti, also creative director of Dazed & Confused, on what he likes least about the fashion industry: “There’s way too much celebrity in fashion. I don’t really like working with celebrities, so I try to stay away from that whole machine. But of course I have met some incredibly nice and creative people who just happen to be a ‘celebrity.’” Gaga, he says, is “so different” from other famous people.

Rihanna live from myspace

rihannaSo 2 nights ago,  I ended one of the longest and most stressful days with the one and only RIHANNA…
Now for the regulars here and those that follow me on twitter you guys know I love that girl! But what you might not know is why. And last night at The Release Show for MySpace, Rih proved to me in person that I love her for all the right reasons.
As my cab pulled up, I knew from the massive line outside the Hammerstein Ballroom that this was going to be interesting. After a little confusion at the door, I skipped to the front of the line and headed inside where Hot 97’s DJ’s Kast One and Enuff were doing their thing. But with no opening acts, after about an hour it became apparent that people really weren’t interested in the radio top 40, they were there – like I was – for one reason only. And finally after a brief introduction from Angie Martinez, the woman of the hour took the stage.
First let me say, Rih’s set is impressive. Anchored by a massive screen that rapidly shifts through visuals of her, the stage was littered with bizarre props including half-assembled naked silver mannequins, old television sets, decadent furniture and of course her band, who’s even with their over-turned instruments and military jackets, were more rock-inspired than hip hop. But even with all of that to potentially distract you, you just couldn’t take your eyes off of…well, her. And that’s the magic of Rihanna.

Rihanna isn’t a singer. You can’t compare her to Bey or Alicia or even GaGa. Rih is a spectacle. She’s fun and she makes catchy songs that you find yourself strangely connected to. And if anything, last night was a great example of just how connected we all are. As she barreled through her new singles ‘Wait Your Turn’ ‘Hard’ and the ballad that still hasn’t quite grown on me ‘Russian Roulette’, the crowd watched in awe at the Bajan beauty who looked stunning in her silver one-piece leotard and fishnets.
As she moved into her earlier efforts you could sense this new-found fearlessness we’ve heard so much about. With acoustic versions of ‘Take A Bow’ and ‘Disturbia’ you were reminded once again that Rihanna’s voice isn’t the strongest but as her eyes watered at lyrics ‘Don’t tell me you’re sorry cause you’re not, You’re only sorry you got caught’, you couldn’t help but smile. Rih truly is something else.
As she moved into a medley of her more popular hooks including ‘Live Your Life’ and ‘Run This Town’ the mood in the audience heightened at the possibility of surprise guests, which never happened. That would be my only real dissappointment with the show itself. Again, while I love Rih it would’ve been nice to get a guest or two – especially for such a collab-friendly artist.
But as Rihanna moved into her signature hit and people literally opened their umbrellas, the disappointment of no Hov, Ye or Jeezy was quickly forgotten, and we danced. Why not? It’s Rihanna. It’s meant to be fun. Ey ey ey…
